With a great deal of tension and uncertainty swarming around the Biancocelesti camp following the shocking request from Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto to depart the capital club at the end of the season following a vital 4-1 victory against Salernitana, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani provided insight on the situation in a recent press conference.

Despite Lazio navigating on the right path since the arrival of Igor Tudor on the touch-line, as the Roman club seized six points out of nine available in the first three matches within the club’s era under the appointment of the Croatian, Lazio find themselves out of balance behind the scenes.

The 31 year-old’s post-match interview with DAZN sent shock-waves across the capital , revealing that the creative-midfielder has no intentions of playing at Lazio anymore, despite having signed a four-year renewal with the club only six months ago.

Whilst the futures of numerous star players such as Felipe Anderson, Pedro, Ciro Immobile, and Mattia Zaccagni are currently in limbo, Lazio are faced with extremely nerve-wrecking circumstances after having been notified that their star-midfielder, whom as attained four goals and six assists in 29 games-played in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, has no desire to remain with the club.

While speaking to the media earlier today, Fabian gave his perspective on the tough situation regarding the former Liverpool and Sevilla central-playmaker, as relayed by LazioSiamoNoi:

“These things have been happening since football has existed, perhaps it was the least suitable evening. I can’t stay in the brain of a player. Some time ago, with the advent of Tudor, he told me that at the end of the year he would probably prefer to change his shirt for a series of reasons that I won’t say here.

“I told him ‘look, we have a duty to finish the season in the best possible way. After that we will evaluate all the positions’. Nobody promised or signed any resolutions.

“In the summer, his contract was renewed for four years. There was a moment of decline, reaching the point that he didn’t even want to go to training camp with the team. There was my mediation with president Lotito, and we reached the conclusion of signing this contract under the conditions of the entourage. After six months, ‘I leave all the money to Lazio’. Contracts are made to be respected, on one side and the other. It is a situation that must be explored calmly and serenely.”
