Sascha Zverev is a Masters 1000 champion for the sixth time, producing a clinical display to defeat Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-5 in Sunday’s 2024 Internazionali BNL d’Italia final.
Zverev hasn’t triumphed at this level since 2021, and it marks his first big title after his ankle injury sustained at Roland Garros two years ago.
After a dominant serving week, the third-seeded German produced the goods when it mattered, winning 95% of points behind his first serve and breaking at the end of each set to record his second Rome Masters 1000 title.

During the 101-minute match, Zverev effectively neutralised Jarry’s powerful game and was the stronger player throughout.
The Chilean had some nice moments but was constantly under pressure as Zverev executed aggressive strokes to control the play.
It was a bit of a dream week for Sascha, really, as he was dominant throughout 12 days. He dropped just one set during the tournament, and when he lands his first serve, he’s a real handful for all comers. He should fancy his chances at the French Open in a fortnight.
As for Jarry, this was his first Masters 1000 final, and he never really had much of a look in with his forehand making quite a few errors. I think the combination of his tough matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tommy Paul, plus Zverev’s sharpness, made it too much of an uphill battle.
