The athletic prowess of the Berrettini brothers never fails to enthrall the fans. Although Matteo Berrettini has become a well-known name in the tennis world, his younger brother, Jacopo Berrettini, has also made similar strides in his sport. Despite being a Berrettini, the 27-year-old Italian tennis player is poised to emerge as a notable presence in the tennis scene, echoing the success of his sibling on the court.

The former world number 6 player is not the only one in his family to be competing on the ATP tour quite frequently; he is frequently spotted playing doubles tennis with his younger brother, who started grabbing a lot of attention last year. Jacopo Berrettini, who is only a few years younger than Matteo, made his ATP main-draw debut at the Sardegna Open in 2021.

He teamed up with his older brother after they were given wildcards into the doubles tournament. When it comes to singles play, Jacopo has recently shown off his skills in Challenger events, where he has recently made it to the semifinals of one tournament, demonstrating his potential to become a well-known individual tennis player.

But his journey to becoming a tennis player was not as easy as it looked. Last year, when both the brothers shared the court for the Mexican Open, the 27-year-old Italian opened up about the struggles his brother went through over the past couple of years. During the tournament, he stated, “It was a really, really special moment obviously. Especially because he was having a tough, tough moment in the last couple of years for covid, for so many reasons. He got injured as well many times and he couldn’t really perform the way he wanted to. So I was really happy for him.”

Not only that, but looking at the troubles Jacopo has been through, the former Wimbledon finalist, being the younger brother, has always supported him, in achieving his dream. In addition, the 25-year-old demonstrated his skill by advancing to the main draw of the Mexican Open after defeating Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Luciano Darderi by wildcard admission into the qualifying round. Remarkably, he won his first ATP match when Oscar Otte, his opponent, withdrew in the third set.

This accomplishment catapulted him more than 350 spots higher in the ATP rankings, indicating an important rise within the top 500 players, and he hasn’t looked back. However, when it comes to the younger brother, the former Wimbledon champion is the most important person in his life.

Matteo Berrettini is the ‘most important person’ for Jacopo

Last year, in a conversation with ATP.com, he expressed his love and respect for his elder brother, who has always guided him not just in tennis but in his life too. Both the brothers share an incredible bond that is quite visible on and off the tennis court, as they never leave each other’s side.

He said, “Without him [none of this] would be possible. Not just for the [qualifying] wild card but for everything. He is my inspiration, he’s really a true champion and really a very good person. For me he’s the most important person in my life. I really want to say thanks to him. It’s really nice to have him here and in general in my life.”
