Having spent countless hours training, rain, hail or shine at their Park Lane home on the outskirts of town, a group of teenagers from Wexford Wanderers rugby club are hopeful of embarking on a “once in a lifetime trip” to showcase their talents in Italy.

The club’s U15 boys team are hoping to play their first international away match against the U15 teams of Amatori Genova and Union’s Rugby Provincial Di Alessandria in November, who they encountered on home turn back in January.

However, the costs involved in sending a squad to Italy can quickly spiral. That’s why the club have embarked on a fundraiser to help the boys achieve this dream of taking their game to the continent.

The club is seeking sponsors to help them with the cost of travel, accommodation and a special Wexford Wanderer’s Travel Kit. They’ve set a goal of raising €15,000 and all contributions are gratefully received. Those interested in sponsoring can email Italy24ww@gmail.com.

Another element of the fundraising will see the club raffle off a framed Ireland jersey signed by the entire Six Nations Winning squad – including favourites like captain Peter O’Mahony, Bundee Aki, Jamison Gibson-Park and our very own Tadhg Furlong.

Tickets to win this special piece of history are priced at just €10 and can be purchased from the Wexford Wanderers website.
