Milan manager Stefano Pioli is now likely to find his future at the club sealed, as the Serie A giants were knocked out of the Europa League by rivals Roma.

Milan were 1-0 down from the first leg and they went to Rome knowing that they simply had to win to turn the tie around and progress to their second consecutive European competition semi-final. More than that, it was also about Pioli’s future as Luca Bianchin had reported some days ago that Pioli’s future at Milan hinged on the result of the tie.

An inability to go through would have meant that Pioli would leave at the end of the season and it now seems as if Pioli has managed his last game in European competitions for the Rossoneri, with Roma emerging 3-0 winners on aggregate.

The Rossoneri couldn’t get a single goal back despite Zeki Celik’s sending off as Daniele de Rossi’s men held on firmly and Roma progressed to their third consecutive European competition semi-final, with the last two coming under Jose Mourinho.
