Pakistani, Italian women team up to conquer K2

A group of Pakistani and Italian mountaineers has planned to summit world’s second-highest peak, K2, as commemoration of the first time the peak was conquered.

It was commemorated as a platinum jubilee event, symbolizing the completion of seven decades since its first ascent in 1954 by an Italian expedition led by Mr. Ardito Desio.

The initiative to conquer K2 in 2024 was undertaken by EvK2CNR, in collaboration with the Italian Alpine Club.

The campaign was commenced recently in Italy and witnessed the of people including Ms. Daniela Santanchè, Italy’s Federal Minister for Tourism, Mr. Antonio Montani, President of the Italian Alpine Club, Mr. Agostino Da Polenza, President of EvK2CNR, and several other distinguished guests.

The K2 expedition was scheduled to take place in July-August 2024, and aims to showcase the determination, skill, and spirit of women mountaineers from Pakistan and Italy.

Around 4 women mountaineers from Pakistan have been chosen to join the expedition team.

The women climbers are currently participating in a training session at Ratu Astor in Pakistan to further enhance their capabilities.
