Interest rates on new household
mortgages fell to 4.82% in December 2023 from the peak of 4.92%
the previous month, the Bank of Italy said on Friday.
In the same period rates on loans to businesses also fell to
5.46% from 5.59%.
The reversal, already signalled by the market and banking
operators in anticipation of the possible easing by the European
Central Bank of rates in the second quarter of this year, comes
after they reached their highest level since 2008.
