The agent of Napoli defender Giovanni di Lorenzo has revealed that the player wants to depart the club in the summer.
Di Lorenzo was vital to the club’s performances in the Scudetto-winning campaign and it has been rumoured that he wants to depart, with Juventus linked with a move yesterday amidst speculations about his dissatisfaction.
The Italian’s agent – Mario Giufreddi has now revealed that the defender indeed is seeking a departure from the club. Giufreddi recently spoke to TV Play about his client’s situation, revealing that Di Lorenzo spoke to new Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna about leaving.
Giufreddi said (via TMW): “Di Lorenzo had a conversation with Manna in recent days, as did all of his teammates. They talked about the year that is coming to an end and the prospects for next season. Di Lorenzo expressed to Manna some feelings about a lack of trust on the part of the club towards him.
“To this statement from the captain, Manna expressed his strong personal esteem for him, but president De Laurentiis is willing to sell in response to an offer. Di Lorenzo had confirmation that the lack of trust in him had become reality. At that point, having taken note of the president’s thoughts, he explained to sporting director Manna that without the necessary trust he wanted to leave Naples. There cannot be a captain disheartened by his company.”
There has been talk of Di Lorenzo’s potential new deal at the club, but Giufreddi’s comments should be alarming for Napoli, who could lose Victor Osimhen this summer to a Premier League club or to Paris Saint-Germain. Khvicha Kvaratkshelia has also been linked with PSG and it remains to be seen if another key player departs the Maradona.
