We are just a few days away from hearing the roar at Cheltenham, but in the meantime RacingGav is back with three pts for the card at Exeter this Friday.

Voyburg – 1pt Win – 10/1 (General)

My first selection today is Voyburg and warning, he is a risky one!
His four runs this season have resulted in form of PUPP and it is never good when you are talking about form as letters rather than numbers. However, at 10/1, I’m willing to have a straight win bet on him as he either bounces back and could well win this or he runs another stinker, so I see little point in playing this each way.
A few points attract me to this horse:

  • He is back down to his last winning mark of 96.
  • He has Kai Lenihan aboard who claims a further 7lb (runs off 89) and Kai’s record for Bailey is an impressive 6 wins from 15 rides (40%).
  • Voyburg has 1 win and 1 place from 2 runs at Exeter, so the horse performs well at the track.
  • This is his first run in a 0-100 handicap since his last win.

With the easing mark, Kai’s claim, the lesser opposition, he really has everything he needs to give him every chance here; it’s over to the horse now!

Gladiateur Allen – 1pt Each Way – 8/1 (Bet365, 3 places)

My second and final selection today is Gladiateur Allen in the following race at Exeter.

This horse has been back over hurdles the last three runs and ran reasonably well or had excuses each time.

Three runs back he put in a very solid third at Ffos Lass off this mark where he held every chance on the run in. He did well to finish off strongly after being very keen early on in the race.

Next time out he ran at Chepstow over a slightly shorter trip and on slightly better ground. He was outpaced but stayed on well at the business end to finish 4th. The winner Santos Blue won at Kelso last weekend. The second No No Tonic went down by a neck next time out as well. Therefore, that form looks pretty solid.

The way he has been getting outpaced and then staying on suggested maybe a step up in trip was required and they tried that last time out. He raced freely and travelled strongly but ultimately, he didn’t stay the trip and weakened out of the race form two out.

It is also worth considering that the last twice, he had the burden of top weight as he was running in 0-120 races. He now goes for a 0-130 where he carries 11st 6lb and his best performance this season was in a similar race three runs back at Ffos Las off this mark.

I think this 2m5f trip could be spot on for him and at 8/1 I’m willing to have a bet on him to find out. I’d be disappointed if he could not finish in the first three and therefore an each way bet looks the logical play here. I’d be keen enough to take on Sabrina off a mark of 120 and also American Sniper as he is having to carry top weight here. Interestingly, Gladiateur Allen’s Dam won a Grade 3 over 2m5.5f in Auteuil, which bodes well for this trip being the right one!
