Fabio Cannavaro joins Udinese as manager

Former Italy defender and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro has now joined Udinese as the club’s manager after Gabriele Cioffi was sacked from his role at the club.

Hours after Cioffi’s sacking, Udinese made the decision to hire a new manager and have announced Cannavaro’s arrival. The Friulians are currently fourth-bottom in the table right now and they are right in the centre of a battle to avoid relegation from the division.

This is Cannavaro’s second managerial role in Italy, with his prevous one coming in Serie B at Benevento last season. Later this afternoon, he will take Udinese’s training session in what is the start of his very first managerial role in the Serie A.

The former defender’s contract ends at the end of the season and the likelihood is that he would make his debut in the game against Roma, against whom only the last few minutes of the game will be played after the initial game was suspended due to the heart problem suffered by Evan N’dicka.
