Confindustria warned Saturday that
there are “new risks” for the Italian economy amid “new
tensions” at the international level at the start of this year.

The industry association said in its monthly ‘economic flash’
analysis that a big risk was linked to the reduction in shipping
traffic via the Suez Canal due to attacks in the Red Sea by the
Yemeni Houthi rebels.
“Gas and oil prices have not been affected so far but remain
high,” it said.

Confindustria added that, while up to end of 2023, Italy’s GDP
“may have fared better than expected” and the services and
construction sectors have rebounded, “industry remains weak”.

It said inflation was low in Italy but had not yet come down so
much in the rest of Europe, which means interest rates “could
remain high for a few more months”.
