Back Me

2 Tsunami Sam (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. John Keys has a very strong hand in the race but I reckon this one is the #1 seed. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since Dec 17 here when a well supported contender. He got off the speed and kept finding the line but was no match for a quality type, Geegees Gemstone. Saves his best for Hobart and does tend to race on the fresh side. One to beat.

Danger

3 Ole Ola (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a Glenn Stevenson trained mare that is knocking on the door to win. She has finished runner up her past two, the latest being on Dec 29 over 1400m here when leading and giving a very strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Nicco The Greek. Like her back in trip, should find the top and be hard to get past.

Long Shot

1 Galenus (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is the class of the field and that will carry him a long way, along with the 4kg claim. He ran in the Ladbrokes Stakes at WFA and was outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Bello Beau. This looks more within his reach and I do think back to 1100m is a tick.

Race 2. (12:30) Mingari + Co (Bm64) 2100m

6 Kay Oh Ell (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but that can be said about most of these. This mare though is racing very well and bursting to win again. She ran over 2100m at Launceston on Australia Day and was given every chance. Just found one better in Conundrum. Has a good track/distance record and in a thin race, she is the straight bat play.

Danger

5 Captain Morgan (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is on the seven day back up after racing last Sunday at this trip at Launceston when back in the run and failed to make up any real headway behind I’m So Cool. The run prior he ran third in the race mentioned above won by Conundrum, so that reads well for this.

Long Shot

4 Page (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is capable with her best. She comes through the Conundrum race where she got back to near last in the run and failed to make up any real headway when down the track, beaten just under nine lengths. Maps to do no work in the run and with tinkering of the gear, an improved showing is on the cards.

Race 3. (13:05) Winning Edge Presentations Mdn Plate 1200m

Back Me

2 Captain Cam (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) on top but it’s a nothing maiden. Rowan Harner trained gelding that resumed on the Devonport Synthetic where he got into a lovely spot near the speed and presented to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Miss Keeds. Maps to get a good run once again and I do think, fitter, up to 1200m, he appeals.

Danger

5 Rohzhae (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has had a host of chances to break the maiden tag but he is honest and generally around the mark. He ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where he sat on a very slow tempo and seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite get there and despite being a narrow second, you’d have to mark him down as disappointing given the run he had. But, given the lack of depth here, he commands respect.

Long Shot

6 Trabzon (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. This guy ran at this track/distance three weeks back where he had the suck run in transit and loomed but couldn’t quite get there when fifth to Perola. Third up, hard fit and this isn’t a deep race so he is in with a shout at odds.

Race 4. (13:40) Kevin Sharkie Mdn Plate 1400m

Back Me

3 Loud Mouth (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) should appreciate a rise to 1400m and with good upside to come, he’s the way I am leaning. John Keys trained gelding that resumed over 1200m here three weeks ago where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but first up, condition just gave way late in the piece when third to Rubble N Fudd. Finds the front and with good upside to come, he’ll take running down.

Danger

5 Mateus (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) looks a coming maiden winner and it could easily come here. Both runs this time in have come over this trip, the latest being at Launceston just over three weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and made up headway without threatening. Newitt rode fresh when just missing and he’s back on here. Rates highly.

Long Shot

1 Auntie Jake’s Bar (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is an improver at a likely decent price. He ran midfield in the Rubble N Fudd race mentioned above where he was wide throughout and that early burn just told late in the piece, but he was far from disgraced in defeat. He maps to get a much better run in transit…knockout hope.

Race 5. (14:15) Strutt Stakes 2100m

7 Girls Girls Girls (Bet Now: $7.00) hasn’t won in three career outings but it’s hard to knock the way she has been going. Her last two runs have come in town, the latest being a few weeks ago at Flemington when beaten just under four lengths by Bold Soul in a tidy effort. Rise in trip should be fine and I think with a more patient steer, she’ll be more effective.

Danger

2 Very Sewreel (Bet Now: $2.05) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. Lovely ride from McNeil saw this girl bolt up and beat the Mares at The Valley last time, proving quite strong late in a good display. Off that, 2100m should be okay, she looks the leader and the stable is absolutely flying.

Long Shot

5 Buddong (Bet Now: $34.00) is a filly that has talent and is a knockout chance. She ran in the Thousand Guineas at the mile here where she lacked the change up speed but stayed on and was sound in defeat behind Wings Of Song. The rise in trip does appear as though it will suit and the stable is in form after a win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Race 6. (14:50) Ladbrokes Community Sports Series (Bm60) 1400m

7 Sweet Lucifer (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) has found a purple patch and I think he can certainly hold it. He ran over 1200m here three weeks ago where he sat on the back of the speed before angling clear and gee he put them away with ease when asked, drawing clear to win and win well. Tricky gate, but should press forward and prove extremely hard to beat.

Danger

14 Kireina Marubrah (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a filly that I think has talent, enough to measure up here. All three career outings have come on the Devonport Synthetic, the latest being a first up run where she just looked in need of it, beaten six lengths. In a good camp and overall, this isn’t a deep race, so she doesn’t need to improve much to be around the mark.

Long Shot

3 Our Little Ted (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) can run a much improved race. Too bad to be true when racing at Launceston last time and the vet found an excuse post race, with the horse having an elevated heart rate, so a clear forgive run. Prior effort at this track/distance was very strong and good enough to give this a shake so watch the market.

Back Me

2 Puma (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is racing in a purple patch for John Barker and for mine is the one to beat. Strong winner at Longford on New Years Day before going to the mile at Launceston when doing work to land on speed and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Luvher. He was a few weeks between runs there so with room for improvement, he rates highly.

Danger

8 Noxious (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) took a little while to break the maiden tag but now that she has got a win on the board, she can go on with it. The maiden win came on Australia Day over 1400m at Launceston where she got a dream run in transit and despite that, she took a while to get there and only just got there. But, she is racing like 1600m suits and has upside/progression.

Long Shot

10 Prewingo (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is one for wider exotics. This guy has raced on the Devonport Synthetic his past two, the latest being on Jan 10 over 1880m when back in the run and made up solid headway but just couldn’t quite sustain the run so forgive and forget. Gets in well after the claim, strong late…knockout hope.

Race 8. (16:00) Thomas Lyons Stakes 1400m

4 Indispensable (Bet Now: $4.40) is the straight bat play. John Blacker trained gelding that ran in the Ladbrokes Stakes over 1200m at Launceston, getting back in the run and charged at the line late, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Bello Beau. Back up in trip looks ideal and from the inside gate, he can settle much closer in the run. Hard to beat.

Danger

11 Geegees Gemstone (Bet Now: $3.70) is a mare with good ability. Thrown in the deep end in the Ladbrokes Stakes last time and was an eye catcher, getting held up at stages before eventually finding clear air and finding the line quite well late behind Bello Beau. Gets clear air this time around and has a good record at Hobart.

Long Shot

8 Just A Tribute (Bet Now: $23.00) has a good record at the track and is racing well. Gary White trained gelding that ran over 1400m at Launceston last start where he got a fair way out of his ground but I really liked the way he finished his race off when third. Not sure he has the quality to win but can pinch a first four spot.

Race 9. (16:40) Hobart Cup 2400m

2 Alhambra Lad (Bet Now: $2.30) has panels on these IMO. Patrick Payne rarely gets it wrong when he sends a team to Tassie and he has this guy humming off the back of a dominant win over 2200m here at WFA where he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display. All things equal, he’s too good for this lot IMO.

Danger

1 Aurora’s Symphony (Bet Now: $7.00) won the race last year and looks to be ticking along nicely towards defending his crown. He sat back in a truly run race last time at Flemington and in a driving go, he finished best to just get the win. Not sure he’s well in at the weights but is a proven stayer that maps to do no work.

Long Shot

6 Wyclif (Bet Now: $10.00) should be suited back up in trip. He ran over 2040m at The Valley last time when back in a very slowly run race and just couldn’t get involved behind Independent Road. More genuine tempo here and up to 2400m, leading camp…his best is good enough to be dangerous.

Race 10. (17:20) Beach Club Hcp (C2) 1200m

Back Me

2 Navy Street (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) looks extremely hard to beat in the get out. Formerly with Tom Sadler, he’s had three runs for Glenn Stevenson, winning two on the bounce on the Devonport Synthetic before going to 1400m here where he got back to near last in the run and worked home strongly late in the piece when second to Hellot. Back to a truly run 1200m, he’ll spot them a start but should be strong at the end.

Danger

8 Starnote (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is an Adam Trinder trained mare that looks to have returned in really good order. She was well specked at odds when resuming over this track/distance and the bets were landed, leading throughout and was quite strong to the line in winning. More depth here, but off that return, she has to be respected.

Long Shot

4 Gallant Warriors (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs this time in have come over 1200m at Launceston, the latest run being on Australia Day where he got back and wide, but worked home with real purpose late when a close up fifth. Like him up to 1400m and with a drag into the race, he’s dangerous.
